No Reason to be Frightened with a Polar Bear Plush Toy

White has its own charm, which makes polar bear plush a likable addition to a growing collection. When we go out to buy our first teddy bear, we are more likely to choose the common brown bear and never care to look at the other designs. Polar bears are the largest of its kind with males weighing up to 2000 pounds and towering a maximum 10 feet. The female counterpart only weigh half as much. They have huge webbed paws that serve as paddles for faster swimming, as snowshoes when walking on snow, and as a very reliable support to their massive figure.

On the pads of their paws are papillae, or tiny grippers, that help provide traction on the snow and prevent them from slipping. Their webbed paws help them reach a maximum of 6 miles per hour speed in swimming which they can do for a distance of 100 miles. It is their front paws that make them thrust forward, while they use their hind legs to make a turn. It is interesting to know that once they go underwater, their ears would flatten as protection and their nostrils will close. This aids them to stay under water for 2 minutes straight.

When speaking of polar bears, what instantly comes to mind is a white bear. They, actually, can be a light shade of yellow or brown, especially on the summer months. Their fur is able to trap the heat from the sun to keep them warm. Also, their fur is oily which makes it easier for them to swim since it repels water. Polar bears can sense their prey even from a distance of 20 miles.

Polar bears are very patient hunters. They catch their prey using a still-hunting method. By this, they use their sense of smell to find a seal’s breathing hole. Once found, they would patiently sit above it waiting for the seal to come out for air. The poor seal stands no chance with the speed of a bear’s forepaw.

Polar bears are marine mammals. They usually stay at sea or in areas where ice meets water. This is mainly because they follow their prey. As seals move and migrate, so does the bear. If they should ever get stranded in a place where ice has melted, they stay in that place until the next freeze up and continue on with their hunting.

The fact that polar bears are very large and are carnivores makes men assume that they are aggressive as well. The truth is they would rather flee than attack. This is especially true when they are full. The story changes when bears are hungry. Their behavior becomes unpredictable and they may attack men when provoked.

Since they live in the icy regions of the earth, the chance of seeing a real one is so small especially for those who live in tropical countries. The next best way to enjoy them is through polar bear plush toys. Another good thing with a polar bear plush is we get to perceive the animal as cuddly and cute, instead of wild and frightening.
