What does a large, old-fashioned picture of mom mean?

I know two men in their 50′s, both single, both married in their forties for the first time and both divorced after only two years. Both of these men had difficult childhoods and strained relationships with their mother. Coincidentally, both display a large, 8X10 head shot of their mother taken when the mother was in her twenties. One of them keeps it next to the bed and the other out where people can see in the living room. In both cases, the mother has passed away.
What is the psychology behind displaying a picture like this. These two men are not connected to each other and have met only briefly for a short period of time. Anyone have any guesses?

They love thier mothers? I have no idea, but I wouldn’t read to much into the fact that they both have really old pictures of their mom’s on display. It’s most likely a coincidence.

In marriage we tend to try to ‘right’ the ‘wrongs’ of our childhood, so we marry people that are like our parents and then try to ‘fix’ stuff. If these men both had strained relationships with their mothers, it would seem natural that thier marriages would be strained as well.

Who knows for sure?
