1957 Les Paul VOS Goldtop Darkback Electric Guitar $3699 The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop from Gibson Custom is a near-perfect recreation of the original instrument, in all of its original brilliance and historical magnificence. The body features Gibsons traditional hand-carved maple top and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fiber, just like it was in 1957, and the vintage-style tulip tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original. The 24 -inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon one of the Les Pauls more distinguishing characteristics of the 1950s. The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard outfitted with acrylic trapezoid inlays matching the size of color of the originals. Of course, two of Gibsons legendary Burstbucker pickups deliver all the subtle variations of true, classic humbucker tone by using historically unmatched bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. The guitars Antique Gold finish also matches the hue of the original model, giving this Custom Shop model the accurate and distinct appearance of this traditional Les Paul. Other historical appointments include CTS potentiometers, bumble bee capacitors, rolled crme-colored fingerboard binding, single-ply thin binding around the body, and period-correct switchwasher and jackplate. Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries $17.8 This is a comprehensive study of needlework tools from the 17th century to the Edwardian era. The format of the book groups the tools into periods and relates them to the style of embroidery fashionable at that time. The heavy silver needlework tools of the 17th century are related to the raised and padded embroidery of that era now known as stumpwork. The more delicate embroidery tools of the Georgian era are grouped together with fine embroideries. Palais Royal sewing boxes and their superb mother-of-pearl contents are illustrated, as are the glorious carved ivory needlework tools that originated from the Dieppe region of France. The Victorian lady chose her sewing box, work table or sewing set from the tremendous range available of which illustrated examples include tortoiseshell, papier mache, Tunbridge ware and Mauchline ware. Camas, Washington (Images of America Series) $21.99 When Henry Pittock, the owner of the Oregonian, wanted a new paper mill to supply his newspaper, he chose a site 16 miles upriver from Vancouver. There he founded the LaCamas Colony in 1883, named after the Camas lily, a basic foodstuff of the Chinook tribes that inhabited the river. Agriculture was also a vibrant part of Camas, and today Prune Hill is a desirable part of town. Incorporated in 1906 as one means of controlling the sale of alcohol, Camas was the most active town in Prohibition in Clark County. During the middle of the last century, the flavor of the town began to change, as hightech companies of the “Silicon Forest” came to share the landscape with the paper mill and Douglas firs. Today’s visitors stroll through charming cafes and antique shops at the Port of Camas, where a rough landing was once carved out of the thick forests above the Columbia River. |
