What kind of dark wood with a wavy grain is found in Poland?

We just bought an antique table and chairs that was made in Poland about 1900-1910. It is a naturally dark wood, with a grain somewhat like oak, but not as wild. The table leaves were still in the original wood boxes they were brought over in. I just lemon oiled them, and they darkened right up. The style of the table is a heavy plank top round with a big pedestal and four slightly wavy legs. The chairs are very much like a combination of Shaker and Mission. Pretty simple, with legs that were handmade, each one is slightly different.

sounds like walnut or oak. both are widely used for quality furniture. The oak darkens with age and can get almost black in colour- rather typical of Gdansk (Danzig) furniture (very dark, very heavy style)
Of course there were thousands of manufacturing sites in Poland, so try looking for more clues

Not illustrated. Excerpt: The Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (“Fountain of Justice”) is a 16th-century fountain in the Gerechtigkeitsgasse in the Old City of Bern, Switzerland. It is the only Bernese fountain to retain all original design elements, and is listed as a cultural heritage of national significance. Thanks to its namesake figure, Hans Gieng’s famous statue of Lady Justice, the Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen surpasses all other Bernese fountains in artistic merit. The iconic figure was copied throughout Switzerland up until the middle of the 17th century. The statue is a copy of the original, which was largely destroyed by vandals in 1986. The fountain as seen from the westThe fountain consists of an octagonal main basin and two smaller spillover basins. The main basin, made out of unadorned limestone plates held together with an iron ring, bears the date of one of the renovations, MDCCCXLV. In the centre of the main basin, bronze tubes emerge from the central pedestal, which was replaced in 1949. Atop it stands a narrow, festooned stone pillar decorated by an acanthus frieze. The life-sized statue on the pillar is Iustitia, “Lady Justice”, the personification of justice. She is portrayed standing in gracious counterpoise holding her traditional attributes sword of justice in her right hand, a balance in her left hand and a blindfold over her eyes. Her costume is fashioned in an antique manner, with sandaled feet, one knee bared, wearing a decorative golden suit of armour adorned with bas-relief arabesques over her blue robes.
